Browser storage is not a cookie, but the rules that cover cookies in the United Kingdom and the European Union cover it too: it is still information stored on your device. What makes this item permissible without asking you first is that it holds only something you set or made yourself, and nothing that identifies you.
How to check for yourself
Open your browser's developer tools on any page here and look under Application in Chrome and Edge, or Storage in Firefox and Safari. They show the cookies, local storage and session storage this site holds in your browser.
How to clear site data
Clearing your browsing data for this site removes anything a browser holds for it. In Chrome it is under Settings, “Privacy and security”, then “See all site data and permissions”; in Edge under “Privacy, search, and services”, Cookies, then “See all cookies and site data”; in Firefox under Privacy & Security, then “Cookies and Site Data”; in Safari under Privacy, then “Manage Website Data”. Private or incognito windows discard it when you close the window.
The site works with storage blocked. Nothing breaks; you get the defaults every time you arrive.
Advertising cookies
Google's advertising script does not run on this site at the moment, so nobody sets an advertising cookie. When advertising is switched on, this page will say so first, name the vendors, link to their opt-outs, and describe how Google asks visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland for their consent.
Analytics
Cloudflare Web Analytics is cookieless. It sets nothing on your device and stores no identifier, which is why it is not in the table above. What it does see.
